Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is to provide a safe, fun and educational space which will stimulate our children.  Activities include drawing, painting, craftwork, singing, dancing, gymnastics, plant cultivation, cooking, dressing up and freeplay.  We also believe in the value of providing a space where children relax and laugh with their friends, and help in setting the day's agenda.

We run several activities - our children go to the Animal Farm and other local parks, can choose to go to ballet or  Irish dancing, do judo, play football, learn photography or become a nature watcher!

Our curriculum is loosely based on the British pre-school model, but it also has to conform with Dutch governmental guidelines. A full copy is available to all parents. We have an active parents committee  supports our work and helps influence the direction.  The parents committee is a powerful and wise body, which always makes the right decision for our children.  They have also helped in shaping and directing the policies which ensure the safety of children.

Our history is that of a small creche, and despite our larger premises we hope to continue working closely with parents to ensure each child is well and happy.

Food at Big Ben's

Children in our babies centre have all their needs catered for by their parents.

Children in toddlers centre do not need to bring food. We believe that food, nutrition and eating together are at the heart of nursery life.  Our children seem to agree and have developed several of their own rituals around eating.  A typical day's menu is as follows:

10 Children eat a snack of organic fruit, breadsticks, rice crackers etc.

12  Lunch
Warm homemade soup

14
Another snack based on fruit

16.15 Dinner
All children are served a warm meal.  This is a standard monthly menu and displayed for all parents to see.All food is prepared fresh, and salt and sugar are excluded.

17-18 Open kitchen.  Children order what they want.

Children drink water throughout the day, unless they are still on formula or we are following special instructions from parents.

Food and nappies are provided without extra cost to parents.
